The history of one castle
In the 17th century, "Mikołaj Lizęga [...] built a fortified wooden castle on the south-eastern edge of the city, surrounded it with wales and a palisade. This castle was not very defensive since Swedish army occupied it after a two-day siege. [...] It was only Jerzy Lubomirski who abolished the old wooden castle and built an enormous rectangular building from hard-fired brick ". This is how the story about the Lubomirski castle Franciszek Kotula begins in the book "Tamten Rzeszów or wandering around corners and the history of the city". This is one of the most characteristic historic buildings in Rzeszów.
